Hope Dashed: FAA Extends Flight Ban to Haiti

The hope for a resumption of commercial flights to Haiti, sparked by the announcement of the reopening of Toussaint Louverture International Airport, has quickly vanished. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has decided to extend the ban until March 12, 2025, plunging the country into an increasingly heavy isolation.

This decision, motivated by ongoing concerns about aviation safety linked to the country’s political instability and rampant violence, has dramatic consequences for the Haitian people. Families are separated, trade is paralyzed, and the already fragile economy is suffering another severe blow.

The prolonged closure of the airport has repercussions on all sectors of activity. Tourism, which was an engine of growth for many regions, has come to a standstill.
