U.S. Revokes 2023 TPS for Venezuelans: 300,000 at Risk

The Trump administration announced on Sunday, February 2, 2025, the revocation of the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) granted in October 2023 to Venezuelan nationals.
The decision, published in the Federal Register, will take effect after April 2, 2025, the original expiration date of this TPS. Approximately 300,000 people will be directly affected by this measure.
Venezuelans currently benefit from two separate TPS programs: one granted in March 2021, which remains valid until September 10, 2025, and another established in October 2023, which was set to expire on April 2, 2025, but has now been revoked.
In total, around 600,000 Venezuelans were covered under both TPS programs.According to the Trump administration, the decision to revoke the 2023 TPS stems from a move by the Biden administration, which extended both protections simultaneously outside the expected timeline.
Trump officials argue that this dual extension should not have occurred, leading them to cancel one of the TPS programs.
