TPS Case Heads to Court as Haitian Community Watches Closely https://paptimes.net/national-news/tps-case-heads-to-court-as-haitian-community-watches-closely/ Tue, 06 Jan 2026 18:35:26 +0000 https://paptimes.net/?p=3711

In Washington, a federal court is weighing a challenge that could reshape the future of Haitian migrants in the United States.

Judges are reviewing whether the decision to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) complies with federal law and administrative standards. The ruling may affect more than 350,000 Haitians who have relied on TPS to live and work legally for years.

Advocates argue that terminating protections ignores Haiti’s ongoing insecurity, economic collapse, and humanitarian strain. Community leaders warn that families could be torn apart and local economies disrupted if deportations resume.

Supporters of the policy change counter that TPS was never meant to be permanent. As arguments unfold, the Haitian diaspora awaits a judgment that will determine whether legal protection continues—or abruptly ends.

Major Arms Seizure at Cap-Haïtien Port Signals Stronger Security Push https://paptimes.net/national-news/major-arms-seizure-at-cap-haitien-port-signals-stronger-security-push/ Fri, 02 Jan 2026 13:14:54 +0000 https://paptimes.net/?p=3703

A joint security operation carried out on December 30, 2025, at the Port of Cap-Haïtien led to the seizure of illegal weapons and ammunition hidden inside commercial cargo. Units of the Haitian National Police, working alongside the Brigade for the Fight Against Drug Trafficking and customs authorities, intercepted three firearms, more than 1,800 rounds of ammunition, and assorted military equipment.

Police sources describe the operation as part of intensified efforts to curb the illegal circulation of arms in northern Haiti. Authorities note that the growing volume of weapons seized in recent months had raised serious concern among local law enforcement.

The seizure is viewed as a strategic blow against criminal supply networks operating through the Cap-Haïtien port infrastructure.

Chronic Insecurity: Gangs as a Structural Threat to the Haitian State https://paptimes.net/national-news/chronic-insecurity-gangs-as-a-structural-threat-to-the-haitian-state/ Wed, 31 Dec 2025 16:19:17 +0000 https://paptimes.net/?p=3698

Across the country, insecurity has become a permanent feature of daily life, deeply affecting social stability and governance. Armed gangs continue to expand their influence in several urban and peri-urban areas, exerting control over neighborhoods, major roads, and economic corridors.

Their presence disrupts civilian life, forcing residents to live under constant fear, restrict movement, and in many cases flee their homes.Beyond the human toll, this situation represents a serious threat to the authority of the State.

Where gangs dominate, public institutions retreat. Basic services collapse, schools shut their doors, hospitals become inaccessible, and local economies grind to a halt. The rule of law is gradually replaced by coercion and informal power structures.

The persistence of this insecurity highlights the lack of effective, long-term responses. As frustration and distrust grow among the population, the State’s legitimacy continues to erode.

Without decisive action to restore security and protect civilians, chronic violence will keep undermining Haiti’s social fabric and weakening the foundations of the nation.

Labodrie: Gang Massacre as Revenge for Fallen Leader https://paptimes.net/national-news/labodrie-gang-massacre-as-revenge-for-fallen-leader/ Tue, 16 Sep 2025 16:09:47 +0000 https://paptimes.net/?p=3682

In Labodrie, a village in the commune of Cabaret, residents were struck by an attack of staggering brutality. According to local reports, the gang known as Viv Ansanm launched a deadly assault that left between 40 and 50 people dead, including women and children.

The massacre was reportedly carried out as an act of revenge following the death of a gang leader known as “Vladimir.” In retaliation, his allies turned their weapons against defenseless villagers, burning homes and wiping out entire families in a wave of terror. Witnesses described scenes of panic and despair as the community was engulfed in flames and gunfire.

This latest bloodshed highlights the vicious cycle of reprisals fueling Haiti’s escalating insecurity. Confronted with such horror, citizens are demanding concrete action from the authorities, who have so far failed to rein in the growing power of armed gangs across the country.

UN Extends BINUH Mandate in Haiti Until January 2026 https://paptimes.net/national-news/un-extends-binuh-mandate-in-haiti-until-january-2026/ Tue, 15 Jul 2025 21:20:05 +0000 https://paptimes.net/?p=3670

It replaced the previous UN peacekeeping and justice missions with a more focused, advisory structure.

Jean Charles Moïse Threatens to Withdraw from CPT and Revive Street Protests https://paptimes.net/national-news/jean-charles-moise-threatens-to-withdraw-from-cpt-and-revive-street-protests/ Wed, 30 Apr 2025 09:35:03 +0000 https://paptimes.net/?p=3630

Jean Charles Moïse is once again reaching for his usual political playbook. Sensing, in his words, that “the ship is sinking,” the leader of Pitit Dessalines appears ready to jump ship. Speaking on Magik9 this Monday, Moïse threatened to withdraw his representative, Emmanuel Vertilaire, from the Transitional Presidential Council (CPT) within two weeks—a signal of growing discontent and possible withdrawal from the transitional process.

The announcement adds a new twist to Moïse’s ongoing campaign against both the CPT and the interim government led by Alix Didier Fils-Aimé. He has intensified his criticisms in recent weeks, accusing the council of failing to address the country’s pressing issues and betraying the hopes of the Haitian people. Yet, he continues to offer no concrete alternative, relying instead on his tried-and-true strategy of opposition without accountability.

In tandem with this threat, Moïse has announced plans to reignite street mobilizations aimed at toppling both the CPT and the current government. By mobilizing public frustration, he hopes to reassert his political relevance and force a radical shift in the current power structure. However, this latest maneuver raises fresh doubts about his true intentions and whether he genuinely seeks a collaborative path out of the crisis—or simply aims to capitalize on the chaos.

600 Haitians return home amid migration crackdown https://paptimes.net/national-news/600-haitians-return-home-amid-migration-crackdown/ Tue, 08 Apr 2025 09:38:24 +0000 https://paptimes.net/?p=3609

Over 600 Haitian nationals have voluntarily returned to Haiti via the Ouanaminthe border crossing in the past 48 hours, according to Dominican media reports citing sources close to the General Directorate of Migration (DGM).

The returns come amid a tightening of immigration controls in the Dominican Republic. Since early April, Dominican authorities have stepped up patrols in both urban and rural areas, particularly in neighborhoods with large Haitian populations. Operations have been reported in Santiago, Dajabón, La Vega, and Santo Domingo.

Fearing arrest or forced deportation, many migrants have chosen to leave the country on their own. “The pressure became unbearable. We felt hunted,” said a young man from Hinche, who arrived in Ouanaminthe with his partner and their child.

Upon arrival in Haiti, the returnees receive no official support. Despite the country’s ongoing social, economic, and security crises, Haitian authorities appear to have made no special provisions to welcome or assist them.

One Last Time drops april 9: Shakaitutu unveils a bold Afro-Caribbean compilation https://paptimes.net/national-news/one-last-time-drops-april-9-shakaitutu-unveils-a-bold-afro-caribbean-compilation/ Sun, 06 Apr 2025 11:23:09 +0000 https://paptimes.net/?p=3603

After years of shaping the Haitian and Afro-Caribbean music landscape, Shakaitutu, the iconic cultural production company founded by Evens Cazeneuve, proudly announces its return with One Last Time — a powerful compilation album set to release on April 9, 2025.

Rooted in unity, creativity, and cultural pride, Shakaitutu has long stood as a symbol of innovation and empowerment in the Caribbean entertainment industry. The name — of African origin (Ghana and Angola) — embodies rhythm and resilience, a spirit that flows through every one of its projects.

A Legacy That Elevates Voices

Over the years, Shakaitutu has helped launch the careers of major talents such as Rockfam, Oswald, Sébastien Pierre, Blaze One, Kid Coulgi, and Voodoo Klan Caribbean. The company has also worked closely with some of Haiti’s most beloved bands, including Disip, Harmonik, Gabel, Nu Look, and Belle Jazz.

Its reach extends into the zouk scene as well, promoting and managing some of the genre’s top names — Milca, Tina Ly, Thierry Cham, Jessye Belleval, and more — across the U.S., Canada, and Haiti.

Beyond production and promotion, Shakaitutu plays an active role in artistic development, helping creators launch and grow their own brands. Collaborations include: Ruthshelle Guillaume (RG Collection), Flav (Konviction), Rigolo (Baw Headphones), DJ Valmix (Valmix Sounds) and Cadelouse (Cadou Cosmetics).

One Last Time: A Vision for the Future

One Last Time brings together rising Afro-Caribbean talents from Haiti, Africa, France, Saint-Martin, and the United States. These artists aren’t signed in the traditional sense — instead, they’re fully supported through a holistic development approach: production, mixing, mastering, branding, media strategy, and touring logistics are all handled by Shakaitutu.

“This project is an investment in legacy,” says Evens Cazeneuve.
“We’re giving artists the tools to thrive, while honoring the culture that raised us.”

Beyond Music: Culture, Community, and Commitment

Evens Cazeneuve’s vision goes far beyond sound. As a consultant for several successful Haitian-owned businesses and co-founder of brands like Parfait Cosmetics, Miami Vodka, and Toussaint Louverture Champagne, he embodies a rare blend of creativity and entrepreneurship. Through JazCaz Enterprise and Savens Enterprise, he remains committed to building long-term economic opportunities in the diaspora and at home.

As a former head of Trace Ayiti, Evens helped talents like Kenny Haiti rise to new levels of visibility, while offering platforms to dozens of emerging artists. His leadership continues through Ayiti in the USA and Ayiti in Haiti, initiatives focused on building cultural and economic bridges between Haiti and its diaspora.

Evens’ humanitarian efforts are just as impactful: from volunteering in schools and supporting youth in Haiti to partnering with nonprofit organizations, his dedication to a stronger, more united Haiti remains unwavering.
