RHAJAC Calls for the Resignation of Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé Over Opaque Contracts Scandal https://paptimes.net/news/rhajac-calls-for-the-resignation-of-prime-minister-alix-didier-fils-aime-over-opaque-contracts-scandal/ Sun, 08 Mar 2026 14:59:15 +0000 https://paptimes.net/?p=3763

We, members of the Haitian Network of Anti-Corruption Journalists (RHAJAC), call for the resignation of Alix Didier Fils-Aimé for the survival of the Nation and the preservation of national sovereignty, due to his lack of credibility in restoring security and organizing elections following new scandals involving opaque contracts.

It is never too early to say no in order to prevent the worst. The Haitian Network of Anti-Corruption Journalists (RHAJAC) recalls that it has already repeatedly denounced the allocation of several billions of gourdes to individuals close to those in power through subsidies and opaque contracts granted to international firms under conditions that undermine the sovereignty of the Haitian State.

The revelations made public on March 5, 2026, by the Fondasyon Je Klere (FJKL), confirming the existence of contracts described as “leonine”, involving several billions of dollars and transferring sovereign functions of the State to foreign companies, further reinforce the serious concerns raised for months by our network.According to RHAJAC, these practices demonstrate the clear inability of de facto Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé to fulfill the fundamental responsibilities of the State, particularly restoring security and organizing elections, after delegating strategic missions—security, prisons, customs, and border control—to foreign private firms, while millions of young people remain trapped in unemployment.

RHAJAC also recalls that during the 2015 elections, Alix Didier Fils-Aimé was a candidate for the Senate in the West Department under the Vérité platform, alongside Professor Jacky Lumarque, who had been excluded from the presidential race on June 19, 2015, by the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) for failing to obtain a discharge regarding his management of the Working Group on Education and Training (GTEF).

This case illustrates a suspicion of conflict of interest: three subsidies of 50 million gourdes each, totaling 150 million gourdes (more than one million US dollars), were granted to Jacky Lumarque.Given the seriousness of these facts and the accumulation of decisions that jeopardize the interests of the Nation, RHAJAC demands the immediate resignation of Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, believing that his departure would pave the way for independent investigations, particularly by the Anti-Corruption Unit (ULCC), into these contracts and the motivations of their signatories.

Haiti: Child Recruitment by Armed Gangs Triples in One Year https://paptimes.net/news/haiti-child-recruitment-by-armed-gangs-triples-in-one-year/ Thu, 12 Feb 2026 20:58:06 +0000 https://paptimes.net/?p=3751

The situation of children in Haiti has reached a critical point. A new report released by UNICEF on the occasion of the International Day Against the Use of Child Soldiers reveals that the number of children recruited by armed gangs tripled in 2025.

Humanitarian organizations warn that minors are increasingly being used as lookouts, messengers, and in some cases directly involved in armed operations. Widespread school closures, forced displacement, and deepening poverty have created fertile ground for recruitment, leaving thousands of children exposed to exploitation.

Aid workers describe a vicious cycle: escalating insecurity fuels school dropouts, which in turn increases vulnerability to gang recruitment. The growing presence of armed groups in several urban areas has further weakened already fragile child protection systems.

UNICEF is calling for urgent action, including safer access to education, stronger community support programs, and accountability measures against those responsible.

Observers stress that beyond the statistics, an entire generation now faces a future overshadowed by violence.

Haiti: Sexual Violence Escalates as Gangs Tighten Their Grip on Civilians https://paptimes.net/news/haiti-sexual-violence-escalates-as-gangs-tighten-their-grip-on-civilians/ Sun, 01 Feb 2026 20:29:34 +0000 https://paptimes.net/?p=3745

Sexual violence in Haiti has reached alarming levels as armed gangs expand their control across the country, exposing civilians to extreme abuse with little protection. In Port-au-Prince, medical teams supported by Médecins Sans Frontières report a sharp rise in survivors seeking care over the past four years, alongside a troubling increase in the severity of attacks.

Health workers describe a growing pattern of gang-related assaults involving multiple perpetrators, targeting women, men, children, and the elderly alike.

These acts are no longer isolated crimes but appear increasingly systematic, reflecting the use of sexual violence as a tool of intimidation and territorial control.Beyond the immediate medical emergency, the surge highlights the collapse of civilian protection mechanisms.

Humanitarian organizations warn that without improved security, accountability, and sustained support for survivors, sexual violence risks becoming a normalized feature of Haiti’s protracted crisis.

Haiti: Smith Augustin Breaks Ranks, Warns Against Removing PTC Coordinator https://paptimes.net/news/haiti-smith-augustin-breaks-ranks-warns-against-removing-ptc-coordinator/ Fri, 30 Jan 2026 17:51:37 +0000 https://paptimes.net/?p=3742

An official letter signed by Smith Augustin, a member of Haiti’s Presidential Transitional Council (PTC), has exposed deep internal divisions within the body just days before the end of its mandate.

Dated January 29, 2026, the correspondence formally opposes any attempt to remove the Council’s coordinator, Laurent Saint-Cyr, as a means of enabling the publication of a resolution dismissing Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé.

Augustin argues that such a move would be legally questionable and politically dangerous, warning it could worsen the institutional crisis and strain relations with international partners, particularly the United States, which has publicly expressed support for the Prime Minister.

Citing the risk of an “institutional escalation,” he announced his decision to abstain from similar decision-making processes until February 7, 2026.

Panic in Jérémie: A Buried Bottle Sparks Fear at Saint-Famille School https://paptimes.net/news/panic-in-jeremie-a-buried-bottle-sparks-fear-at-saint-famille-school/ Mon, 26 Jan 2026 23:45:48 +0000 https://paptimes.net/?p=3738

An unusual and unsettling situation is currently shaking the school community of Saint-Famille de Borde in Jérémie. A bottle buried within the school compound, reportedly containing five students’ names, was discovered by residents who claim it is linked to a “lwa Ogou Feray.”

According to circulating rumors, these children are allegedly designated as “offerings” for the current year. The news spread rapidly throughout the neighborhood and beyond.

Gripped by fear, several parents rushed to the front of the school, desperate to find out whether their child’s name appears among those found in the bottle.

Tension quickly escalated marked by anxiety, anger, and deep confusion. Some voices have gone as far as accusing Father Edner, the school’s principal, of being at the center of the affair, alleging that he would be the one to “consume” these children. These are serious claims, unsupported by any evidence, yet they reflect the depth of panic that has taken hold.

Speaking out, Father Edner firmly denied the allegations. He described the situation as a malicious setup that has been transformed into “a reality built by rumor.” He insisted that, throughout his leadership, no child has ever died at the school and none ever will.“As long as I am responsible for this institution, no student will die here,” he declared.

This episode highlights the powerful influence of popular beliefs within certain communities, as well as the fragility of trust between parents and educational institutions. In the absence of concrete evidence, the immediate challenge is to restore calm, reassure families, and prevent fear from overshadowing reason.

Law enforcement officers also destroyed vehicles used by the criminals.During the raid, the police seized a significant cache of equipment, including drones, handguns, assault rifles, large quantities of ammunition, as well as uniforms and bulletproof vests.

These findings highlight the high level of organization and resources within the criminal network.

Authorities confirmed that operations will continue in downtown Port-au-Prince and Bas-Delmas, as part of a broader strategy to restore public order and reassert state control over key urban zones.
