Yesterday, on Sunday, Prime Minister Ariel Henry embarked on a crucial journey to New York to participate in the 78th General Assembly of the United Nations. This high-profile international meeting provides a crucial platform for world leaders to address the most pressing global issues.

In the absence of the Prime Minister, the continuity of the government will be ensured by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Michel Patrick Boisvert. This measure aims to maintain the necessary stability, allowing the country to function efficiently in the absence of its head of government.

The United Nations General Assembly represents an essential forum for international cooperation, and Ariel Henry’s active participation in this event demonstrates Haiti’s commitment to seeking solutions to global challenges while preserving national interests.

A significant milestone has been reached in the investigation concerning the tragic assassination of former President Jovenel Moïse, which occurred on July 7, 2021. Judge Walter W. Voltaire has issued an order, in accordance with Article 398 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CIC), summoning the current Prime Minister, Ariel Henry, to appear as a witness. This decision was conveyed to the Office of the Government Commissioner in Port-au-Prince just last Monday.

The summoning of Ariel Henry takes place within the context of an ongoing inquiry aiming to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the murder of the former head of state. Judge Voltaire has already issued similar summonses to other prominent figures who held significant roles within the Moïse administration.

Among the summonses already issued are those for Ricard Pierre, Minister of Planning, Michel Patrick Boisvert, Minister of Finance, Guito Edouard, Director General of the National Directorate of Drinking Water and Sanitation (Dinepa), Amos Zéphirin, Director General of the Ministry of the Interior and Territorial Communities (MICT), as well as Jeantel Joseph, Director General of the National Agency for Development and Production (ANAP).

The order issued by Judge Walter W. Voltaire specifies that these individuals are being summoned as witnesses as part of his criminal investigation.

Prime Minister Ariel Henry participated in the first day of the Jamaica Summit which former Prime Ministers Perry Christie (Bahamas), Bruce Golding (Jamaica) and Kenny Antony (Saint Lucia) attended to facilitate discussions.

According to the head of government, his presence “was not intended to settle accounts, and even less to reproach anyone”, but to dialogue between Haitians with the aim of finding a solution to the country’s crisis.

“Everyone knows that no lasting solution for Haiti can come from abroad, nor be imposed by others, whether from CARICOM or elsewhere.

It is up to us Haitians to find among ourselves, by our own means, this common national project likely to unite us for a rebirth of this nation,” declared Ariel Henry.

Ariel Henry leaves for the Bahamas, according to the communication office of the Primature. The Prime Minister will participate in the meeting of CARICOM Heads of State and Government.

Even if the Primature did not mention that the PM will be in Jamaica on June 11, 12 and 13 as part of the inter-Haitian dialogue organized by CARICOM, his entourage confirms as a metronome that Ariel Henry will be indeed present at this meeting.

According to our sources, the PM is obliged to respond to this invitation despite the fact that he did not see a good eye, because Canada and the United States support this approach.
