The BWA KALE movement responsible for over 200 deaths

According to the latest information from the UN, the BWA KALE movement is believed to have caused the death of over 200 people. Since April, Haiti has been experiencing an escalation of violence that jeopardizes the security and well-being of its population. Self-proclaimed self-defense groups, including the BWA KALE Movement, have targeted approximately 264 alleged members of criminal gangs, according to the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti. This concerning situation is causing growing worry.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres visited Port-au-Prince last weekend to personally assess the situation. He expressed his concern about the persistence of violence in the country and emphasized the need for immediate action to protect the Haitian population.

Although the self-defense groups have formed in response to the Haitian government’s inability to contain the spread of criminal gangs, the extent of their influence remains a subject of debate. Some of these groups have been accused of committing acts of indiscriminate violence and summary executions, while others claim to play an essential role in protecting local communities.
