Between 2018 and 2022, at least 19 massacres and armed attacks were perpetrated in the West department of Haiti, causing the death of 947 people, revealed the National Network for the Defense of Human Rights (RNDDH) in a report published on Friday.

“Armed groups have caused enormous human and material losses,” the human rights organization said in its report.

In 16 of these bloody events, the RNDDH recorded at least 947 people killed, 59 missing and some 677 houses destroyed or burned.

“Public measures have never been taken against these armed bandits, whose leaders are known and denounced by the victims,” said RNDDH.

More than 300 people died in six days in the Cité-Soleil district of the capital during clashes between gangs that took place from July 7 to 13, according to RNDDH.
