Former Deputy Prophane Victor Sanctioned by the United Nations:

Prophane Victor, a former deputy of Haiti’s Parliament, has been added to the United Nations (UN) sanctions list, marking a historic first for the country. Victor becomes the first former Haitian lawmaker to face such sanctions. He joins the list alongside Luckson Elan, the notorious leader of the “Baz Gran Grif” gang, a violent group responsible for terrorizing several regions of the nation.

This decision comes as Haiti grapples with skyrocketing insecurity, with gangs increasingly gaining control over strategic territories. Victor, once a prominent figure in the government, is accused of maintaining close ties with criminal groups, particularly with violent actors like Luckson Elan. These connections are believed to have contributed to the country’s ongoing political and security instability.

The UN’s sanctions against Victor aim to freeze his assets, impose a travel ban, and restrict his international business dealings. This move marks a pivotal step in the international community’s efforts to curb the rise of violence and impunity in Haiti.

By sanctioning a former parliamentarian for the first time, the UN sends a strong message that the alleged involvement of political figures in the destabilization of the country will no longer be tolerated. This decision is also expected to pave the way for additional measures against other influential figures suspected of maintaining questionable relationships with armed gangs.
