Haiti: Dramatic Surge in Kidnappings
The country is currently facing an alarming wave of kidnappings, causing major concern among authorities and the general population. Between Thursday, July 20, and Sunday, July 23, no fewer than nine abduction cases have been reported, a particularly worrying figure indicating a disturbing trend.
Cities such as Port-au-Prince, Pétion-Ville, Delmas, and Tabarre have been particularly affected by these criminal acts, further shaking the security in these already fragile areas.

In response to the escalating insecurity, some communities have chosen to take matters into their own hands by attempting to protect themselves autonomously. However, this initiative has led to extremely violent reactions in certain cases, as observed in the small locality of Débussy.
Two individuals suspected of being informants for kidnappers were lynched by an angry mob, illustrating the current climate of tension and mistrust prevailing in the country. This situation is extremely concerning as it risks triggering an escalation of violence and retaliation, thus endangering the lives of many innocent people.
