Haiti: National Forces to Lead Fight Against Gangs, Says Prime Minister
This Wednesday, during an interview with Radio France Internationale (RFI), Haitian Prime Minister Garry Conille announced that Haitian forces will lead the fight against the armed gangs operating in the country.
Dr. Conille specified that while the Multinational Force will support the national police in their operations, the task of reclaiming territories controlled by the gangs will be exclusively for the Haitian Army and Police.
“The Multinational Force will play a supportive and accompanying role, but our national forces will be at the forefront in reclaiming the territories occupied by the bandits,” the Prime Minister stated. This declaration clearly shows the Haitian government’s determination to strengthen the sovereignty and autonomy of its security forces in the face of the insecurity crisis.
