Haitian Immigration Authority Shifts Focus to Passport Requests from the Dominican Republic
In a press release issued on Thursday, the Haitian Directorate of Immigration and Emigration (DIE) announced that passport production will now prioritize applications from the Dominican Republic. This decision primarily targets the regions of Santiago, Santo Domingo, Barahona, and Higuey.
The DIE explained that this measure aims to address the needs of the large Haitian community in the Dominican Republic, many of whom live in vulnerable conditions. By concentrating efforts on these requests, the institution seeks to streamline services in response to the growing wave of deportations following the Dominican government’s plan for mass expulsions.
To ensure efficient processing, Haitian consulates in the Dominican Republic will play a key role in facilitating and accelerating passport renewals. The DIE urges all Haitians affected to contact their nearest consulate to renew their travel documents without delay.
