Insecurity: The U.S. consulate cancels all appointments for this Thursday

In response to the deteriorating security situation in Port-au-Prince, the U.S. Embassy in Haiti has announced the reduction of its operations this Thursday, December 28. This decision comes in light of the increasing activities of armed gangs, particularly around the diplomatic compound and in the vicinity of Truitiers.

U.S. citizens residing in Haiti are strongly encouraged to avoid the affected area due to potential risks to their safety. All consular appointments scheduled for this Thursday have been canceled, and the Embassy advises American citizens to postpone any non-essential travel during this sensitive period.

Local authorities have been informed of the Embassy’s decision, and enhanced security measures are in place to ensure the protection of diplomatic personnel and American citizens in Haiti. Officials from the U.S. diplomatic mission have emphasized that they will closely monitor the situation’s developments before resuming normal activities.
