Judge’s Decision in Haitian President’s Assassination Case: 51 Indicted
Since January 25, 2024, Judge Walter Wesser Voltaire has made a pivotal decision in the investigation into the assassination of former Haitian President Jovenel Moïse. His ruling has sent no fewer than 51 individuals, including former First Lady Martine Moïse, ex-Prime Minister Claude Joseph, as well as other former high-ranking officials, to stand trial in criminal court.
However, despite suspicions and implications, some individuals have been exempted from prosecution. Among them is Prime Minister Ariel Henry, whose involvement in the case was mentioned in the report by the Central Directorate of the Judicial Police (DCPJ) but remains unindicted for the time being. Similarly, former senator of the West, Antonio Cheramy, and other figures such as Reynaldo Corvington, Dominick Chauvin, Paul Edy Amazan, Renor Fontus, Pierre Léandre, Prévot Mozard, and Conrad Bastien have also been excluded from the charges brought against them.
This decision by Judge Voltaire marks a crucial step in the quest for justice surrounding the tragic assassination of the former Haitian leader.
