U.S. Ambassador Hankins Highlights Progress but Calls for More Support in Haiti

U.S. Ambassador to Haiti, Dennis B. Hankins, acknowledged the progress made through the Multinational Support Mission to Security (MMAS) but noted that it has been slow.

Despite significant advancements, he emphasized that considerable challenges remain in establishing a lasting security environment in Haiti.

Ambassador Hankins stated that the MMAS force is expected to reach 1,000 officers by the end of the year. This increase will be achieved through the arrival of 600 new personnel in the coming weeks from three partner countries: Guatemala, Kenya, and the Bahamas.

He stressed that these additional personnel are crucial to supporting efforts to stabilize the country in the face of persistent armed group control and widespread insecurity.

“These additional deployments demonstrate a renewed international commitment to helping Haiti in this difficult struggle,” he concluded.
