Court Issues Summons Against Senior Officials Over Alleged Bribery Scheme

On December 2, 2024, Judge Benjamin Felismé issued summonses for three senior officials: Louis Gérald Gilles, Smith Augustin, and Emmanuel Vertilaire.

The trio is accused of demanding a bribe of 100 million gourdes from the former Chairman of the Board of the Banque Nationale de Crédit (BNC) in exchange for ensuring his continued position.

The three individuals are scheduled to appear before the court on December 9, 10, and 11, 2024.

Should they fail to attend without a valid excuse, the judge may issue arrest warrants, signaling a firm stance by the judicial authorities against the alleged corrupt practices.
