G7 Vows to Restore Security and Democracy in Haiti

During a high-level meeting in Canada this week, G7 nations strongly condemned the escalating gang violence in Haiti, calling it a major threat to the country’s stability. In a joint statement, the world’s most powerful economies reaffirmed their commitment to “restoring democracy, security, and stability in Haiti.”

The G7 also pledged to “continue relentlessly supporting the Haitian National Police and the Multinational Security Mission” in their efforts to dismantle armed gangs. However, while financial and logistical backing has been promised, the multinational mission remains largely inactive, allowing criminal groups to tighten their grip on the country.

Despite repeated international commitments, the Haitian crisis persists, with gangs controlling key infrastructure, terrorizing civilians, and undermining any prospects for political recovery. Many Haitians remain skeptical, questioning whether the G7’s renewed pledges will translate into concrete actions or remain empty rhetoric in the face of a worsening humanitarian disaster.
