Haiti is grappling with a severe food crisis, as revealed by Harmel Cazeau, Coordinator of the National Coordination for Food Security (CNSA), during an announcement on Thursday. According to Cazeau, a staggering 5.4 million people 48% of the population are currently experiencing food insecurity.

This alarming situation stems from the country’s steadily deteriorating living conditions, exacerbated by political instability, rampant gang violence, and rising prices of basic goods. Vulnerable families are struggling to secure regular meals, and there is growing concern that widespread malnutrition could follow if immediate action is not taken.

In response to the crisis, the CNSA has called for urgent intervention from both local authorities and the international community.

While boosting food aid is crucial, the organization emphasizes the need for long-term solutions, including support for agricultural efforts and initiatives aimed at stabilizing Haiti’s fragile economy to prevent further escalation of the crisis.
