Haiti Marks Independence Day 2026 with Official State Ceremony in Port-au-Prince

On January 1, 2026, Haiti commemorated the anniversary of its Independence with an official ceremony held at the Villa d’Accueil in Port-au-Prince.

Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé attended the event alongside the President of the Transitional Presidential Council, Laurent Saint Cyr, and other senior state officials.The ceremony honored the historic proclamation of independence in 1804, which marked the abolition of slavery and the birth of the first Black republic.

Authorities highlighted the symbolic importance of national unity, institutional responsibility, and democratic restoration.

In their remarks, government officials reiterated their commitment to improving security conditions, strengthening public institutions, and organizing credible national elections in 2026 as part of the ongoing political transition.
