Haiti: Schools Close Amid Gang Threats

Growing insecurity in Haiti’s capital has forced several schools to shut down amid escalating gang threats. Institution Saint-Louis de Gonzague, École Jean-Marie Guilloux, and Jardin de Marilou announced their closure this Monday, February 3, citing concerns for the safety of students and staff.

The decision comes after armed groups issued direct threats aimed at disrupting activities in the metropolitan area.

Fearing for their children’s lives, many parents had already chosen to keep them home, while school administrators opted for precautionary closures.
