Haitian foreign minister’s plea for aid sparks brazilian training initiative for local police
In a critical meeting with Brazilian Justice Minister Ricardo Lewandowski, Haiti’s Foreign Minister Dominique Dupuy made an urgent appeal for bolstered support to Haiti’s law enforcement in their relentless battle against the gangs terrorizing the nation. This desperate plea, resonating like a cry for help, found a receptive audience in her Brazilian counterpart.
In response, Ricardo Lewandowski not only expressed his support but also proposed a concrete initiative: the possibility of 400 Haitian police officers receiving specialized training at various training centers across Brazil. This capacity-building effort could mark a significant turning point in Haiti’s escalating struggle against insecurity.
Dominique Dupuy, currently on a mission in Brazil as part of the Conference on the African Diaspora in the Americas, announced this development directly on her X account (formerly Twitter), highlighting the critical importance of this international cooperation for restoring security in Haiti.
This initiative is part of a broader diplomatic effort to mobilize the international community for more concrete intervention in the face of Haiti’s security crisis.
