A Kenyan police officer deployed with the Multinational Security Mission (MMS) in Haiti was injured on Tuesday, March 18, in Bélot, a mountainous area of Kenscoff. The incident was confirmed by MMS spokesperson Jack Ombaka in a statement to the Miami Herald. Due to the severity of his injuries, the officer was airlifted to a medical facility for urgent care.

Details surrounding the incident remain unclear, but it highlights the dangers faced by foreign forces assisting Haiti in its battle against heavily armed gangs. Just last month, on February 23, an MMS soldier was killed by gang members in Savien, Artibonite.

As the Kenyan-led mission works to establish control, these attacks underscore the growing risks and challenges confronting the international forces deployed in Haiti.
