Lamothe Warns of Zero Tolerance Toward Online Smear Campaigns

A new legal chapter is opening in the long-running controversy surrounding former Haitian Prime Minister Laurent Salvador Lamothe. Breaking his silence, Lamothe revealed on X that his legal teams have begun formal proceedings against an individual based in New York whom he accuses of orchestrating defamatory attacks against him.

According to the former head of government, this case is only the first in a carefully selected group of targets. He argues that the people involved are not expressing opinions, but rather manufacturing false narratives with the explicit intention of damaging his reputation.

“The deliberate invention and fabrication of false information does not fall under opinion,” Lamothe stated, stressing that such actions expose their authors to legal consequences. He made clear that these proceedings could extend across multiple jurisdictions, including New York, Miami, and Paris.

By taking this public stance, Lamothe seeks to draw a clear boundary between free expression and malicious disinformation. His move signals a broader strategy to confront what he views as organized smear campaigns, while placing the issue within the wider international debate on digital responsibility and the legal limits of speech in the online era.
