Laurent Saint-Cyr Seeks Private Sector Support for Haiti’s Elections

On January 23, 2025, Laurent Saint-Cyr, Counselor President for the transitional government, gathered private sector leaders at the Oasis Hotel in Port-au-Prince to address a critical issue:

the organization of Haiti’s upcoming elections. With the country facing unprecedented political and social challenges, the meeting aimed to unite key players around the urgent need for credible and inclusive elections.

The event featured presentations by electoral experts who outlined the complexities of Haiti’s electoral system and the significant obstacles standing in the way, including persistent insecurity, logistical shortcomings, and widespread public disillusionment with governance.

These presentations set the stage for a frank discussion on the role of various stakeholders in ensuring the success of the democratic process.Laurent Saint-Cyr stressed that political renewal is not just a goal but an imperative for Haiti’s transition.

“This is not merely about electing new leaders,” he said. “It’s about restoring hope and trust in our institutions. We cannot afford to fail in this moment of national importance.”Saint-Cyr called on the private sector to step up and contribute, both financially and strategically, to facilitate the electoral process.

According to him, the private sector has a unique ability to influence public confidence and create the stability needed to ensure that elections are conducted fairly and transparently.
