Maduro Faces U.S. Justice: Venezuelan Leader Denies All Charges in New York Court

Venezuela’s head of state, Nicolás Maduro, made his initial appearance before a U.S. federal court in New York on Monday, January 5, 2026.

Accompanied by his wife, Cilia Flores, he formally rejected all charges brought against him, including allegations related to narco-terrorism, illegal arms dealing, and drug trafficking. The proceedings were overseen by Judge Alvin Hellerstein.

Reporters from CNN inside the courtroom described Maduro as composed and self-assured, delivering his statements with clarity and confidence.

His defense lawyer, Barry Pollack, confirmed that no bail application would be filed for now, while leaving open the possibility at a later stage. The next hearing is set for March 17, 2026.
