Mario Andrésol Pledges to Restore Access to Southern and Northern Routes Before February 7

Haiti’s Secretary of State for Public Security, Mario Andrésol, has pledged to restore traffic on the main roads linking Port-au-Prince to the country’s South and North before February 7, 2026, the date marking the end of the mandate of the Conseil présidentiel de transition (CPT).

Speaking amid growing public frustration over prolonged road blockages, Andrésol acknowledged that armed groups continue to disrupt mobility along strategic corridors, severely affecting trade, humanitarian access, and daily life. He stated that coordinated security operations are underway to regain control of critical areas and ensure the safe movement of people and goods.

According to the official, reopening these routes is a national priority and a key step toward restoring state authority and economic activity. The coming weeks, he warned, will be decisive in delivering tangible results expected by the population.
