The trial related to the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse officially opened on Monday, March 9, 2026, in Florida, United States, beginning with the selection of the jury.

The proceedings are expected to shed further light on the events surrounding the July 7, 2021 killing that shocked Haiti and the international community.According to reporting by the Miami Herald, testimony from Edwin Blanquicet Rodriguez has introduced troubling new allegations.

Blanquicet claimed that a member of the presidential security apparatus was involved in the alleged execution of Colombian national Duberney Capador Giraldo following the attack.

He further alleged that the intention was to eliminate the Colombian mercenaries to ensure that no evidence would remain linking certain actors to the assassination plot.
