On September 10 and 11, 2024, violent clashes between armed gangs forced over 2,300 people to flee their homes in the neighborhoods of Cité Soleil and Delmas, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

On September 11, the situation worsened in the Boston neighborhood of Cité Soleil, where 2,061 people fled the violence to seek safety. The previous day, September 10, 266 residents of the 2nd Cité Saint-Martin in Delmas were also forced to leave due to intense fighting.

These clashes are yet another example of the ongoing rise in insecurity in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince, where armed gangs continue to terrorize the population. The IOM, alongside Haitian authorities and humanitarian organizations, is working to provide immediate assistance to the displaced, but the needs far exceed current capacities. Many of those displaced find themselves in temporary shelters or improvised centers, living in precarious conditions.

The humanitarian situation remains extremely concerning, with observers fearing a worsening of the crisis in the coming days if no long-term solutions are implemented to restore order and security in these high-risk areas.
