An unusual and unsettling situation is currently shaking the school community of Saint-Famille de Borde in Jérémie. A bottle buried within the school compound, reportedly containing five students’ names, was discovered by residents who claim it is linked to a “lwa Ogou Feray.”

According to circulating rumors, these children are allegedly designated as “offerings” for the current year. The news spread rapidly throughout the neighborhood and beyond.

Gripped by fear, several parents rushed to the front of the school, desperate to find out whether their child’s name appears among those found in the bottle.

Tension quickly escalated marked by anxiety, anger, and deep confusion. Some voices have gone as far as accusing Father Edner, the school’s principal, of being at the center of the affair, alleging that he would be the one to “consume” these children. These are serious claims, unsupported by any evidence, yet they reflect the depth of panic that has taken hold.

Speaking out, Father Edner firmly denied the allegations. He described the situation as a malicious setup that has been transformed into “a reality built by rumor.” He insisted that, throughout his leadership, no child has ever died at the school and none ever will.“As long as I am responsible for this institution, no student will die here,” he declared.

This episode highlights the powerful influence of popular beliefs within certain communities, as well as the fragility of trust between parents and educational institutions. In the absence of concrete evidence, the immediate challenge is to restore calm, reassure families, and prevent fear from overshadowing reason.
