Scabies: Dominican traders fear the disease will have a negative impact on trade
Traders who support the binational market of Dajabón expressed this Wednesday that they hope that the skin disease affecting the neighboring country of Haiti will not negatively influence the already diminished trade between Haitians and Dominicans.
Abigail Bueno, president of the Association of Merchants of Dajabón, assured that the situation in this country has repercussions in the Dominican Republic.
He recalled that the economy of this border province depends largely on commercial exchanges, which take place on Mondays and Fridays of each week, where the citizens of the two countries exchange products from the family basket, as well as clothes, shoes and household items.
“We hope that the new situation will not affect the market more than it already is, due to the devaluation of Haitian money and the insecurity in which they live”, abigail bienPresident of the Association traders from Dajabón.
He indicated that they are waiting for the measures that can be adopted by the Ministry of Public Health to prevent the spread of this disease in the Dominican Republic.
So far, according to authorities, there have been no cases of scabies in Dabajón, a disease similar to that which is present in Haiti. It is a disease that affects the skin and is very contagious.
