US Embassy in Haiti Condemns Violent Attack During Reopening of HUEH Hospital

The U.S. Embassy in Haiti has expressed its outrage following a violent attack carried out by armed gangs during the reopening ceremony of the State University Hospital (HUEH), the country’s primary healthcare center. Calling the act “hateful” and “unacceptable,” the U.S. strongly condemned the violence, which marred an event meant to symbolize resilience for the Haitian people.

In a statement released shortly after the incident, the embassy emphasized that these attacks highlight the ongoing threat posed by armed gangs, whose influence continues to cripple key sectors of the country. “This hateful attack on an essential healthcare institution is an attack on the Haitian people and their aspirations for a peaceful and functional society,” a spokesperson for the embassy stated.

In light of this tragedy, the United States renewed its call for increased international support for Haiti. The embassy stressed the importance of coordinated assistance, focusing on two critical areas: humanitarian aid and security. “Support from partner nations is vital to enable Haiti to push back against armed gangs and build long-term, sustainable security,” it added.
