Youri Latortue relinquishes leadership of “AAA” under the pressure of sanctions

For many years, influential Haitian senator Youri Latortue played a central role in Haiti’s political arena. However, international sanctions imposed by the United States and Canada eventually took a toll on his position, prompting him to step down from the leadership of his party, Ayiti Ann Aksyon. This historic decision was announced during a crucial meeting with party members on November 1.

In recent years, international pressure had been steadily mounting on Latortue and his party in response to allegations of corruption and other violations. These sanctions significantly undermined Latortue’s political standing and that of his party.

On November 1, Youri Latortue made history by relinquishing the leadership of Ayiti Ann Aksyon. This decision was made following a meeting between party members and the former sanctioned senator.

To replace him as the national coordinator of the party, Youri Latortue appointed the experienced deputy, Jean Beauvoir Dorsonne. Dorsonne, a seasoned politician, now takes the helm of Ayiti Ann Aksyon. This transition marks a new chapter in the party’s history and opens the door to new prospects for the country’s political future.
