Rising Attacks on Haitian Police: Officer Cadet Slain

In a grim turn of events, the police officer Gerto Cadet has become the latest casualty in a string of merciless attacks on law enforcement in Haiti. His mutilated and charred body was discovered on the evening of February 22, an odious act that has sent shockwaves across the nation.

The National Police Union of Haiti has confirmed that this brutal murder was the handiwork of armed bandits operating within the commune of Carrefour. This tragedy once again raises questions about the security of law enforcement in a country already grappling with an endemic wave of violence.

This attack against Officer Cadet is regrettably not an isolated incident. The National Police Union of Haiti has lamented the fact that, within a very short span of time, a mere nine days, three other officers have been gunned down in similar circumstances. These events have elicited deep dismay within the union and have heightened concerns regarding the safety of police officers across the entire country.
