U.S. State Department Evacuates Personnel from American Embassy in Haiti
The U.S. State Department announced Sunday morning that it was evacuating personnel from the American embassy in Haiti due to escalating gang violence in the vicinity.
This drastic decision comes after a series of violent incidents in the embassy’s surroundings, putting the safety of diplomatic personnel and American citizens residing in the region at risk. Recent attacks perpetrated by gangs have heightened concerns about the stability of the area and prompted this precautionary measure.
“The safety of American citizens abroad is our top priority,” the State Department said in a statement released early Sunday on its official accounts. This decision is made with the aim of ensuring the safety and well-being of embassy personnel as well as American residents in the country.
