Canada sanctions former ministers Berto Dorcé and Liszt Quitel

In a press release issued by the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, he announced that the Government of his country has imposed sanctions against two former Haitian ministers of Ariel Henry’s government. These are Berto Dorcé and Liszt Quitel. They are accused of corruption and financing gangs in Haiti.

These 2 former Haitian leaders are banned from entering Canada. Berto Dorcé and Liszt Quitel were sanctioned under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. The two men cannot carry out financial transactions on Canadian territory, which implies the freezing of the assets they could hold in Canada, according to a press release from the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mélanie Joly.

“Canada has reason to believe that these individuals use their status as important members of the economic elite in Haiti to protect and allow the illegal activities of criminal gangs, including money laundering and other acts of corruption.” the lit-on dance notes.

It should be noted that several members of Haiti’s political and economic elite have already been sanctioned by Canada for their alleged involvement in the financing of gangs, corruption and money laundering.
