Dennis Hankins named US Ambassador to Haiti

Hankins’ appointment to Haiti comes 19 months after Ambassador Michele Sison was recalled in October 2021 after three (3) years. Since then, the U.S. Embassy in Haiti has been headed by Chargé d’Affaires Eric Stromayer.

In Washington, Hankins served as deputy director of peacekeeping, senior watch officer and Angola desk officer. He received a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University and a master’s degree from the National War College.

The recipient of numerous State Department performance awards, in addition to his native language, he speaks French, Portuguese and Indonesian.

Diplomat Dennis B. Hankins previously served in Haiti as Chief of Nonimmigrant Visa and Refugee Coordinator.
