Dominique Dupuy Says Haiti’s Crisis Requires Collective Action, Not a Political Savior

Amid worsening insecurity and prolonged political instability in Haiti, Dominique Dupuy believes the country must move away from the idea of relying on a single leader to solve its problems. Speaking during an interview on Guy Wewe Radio on Monday, May 18, the former foreign minister stressed that Haiti’s recovery depends on collective engagement and institutional rebuilding.

According to Dupuy, the current crisis is rooted in years of political failures, poor governance, and leaders focused on preserving power instead of addressing the suffering of the population. She argued that Haiti needs a “critical mass” committed to defending national dignity and restoring democratic values.

The former diplomat also warned against political messianism, saying the country cannot afford to repeat past mistakes. She called for credible elections and the restoration of citizens’ voting rights as essential steps toward ending Haiti’s prolonged transitional governance and rebuilding public trust in national institutions.
