First case of cholera confirmed in the Dominican Republic

The Dominican Ministry of Public Health, through the Vice Ministry of Collective Health and the Directorate of Epidemiology, has confirmed the first case of cholera in the country.
According to a press release issued by the ministry, a 32-year-old patient of Haitian nationality is being treated.

The patient entered the country on the 17th of this month from Port-au-Prince to the province of La Altagracia, presenting with acute diarrhea suspected of cholera. In addition, he suffers from amoebic colitis, acute pyelonephritis and pre-existing renal failure.

She is admitted to the Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia Hospital in the municipality of Higüey and receives adequate treatment.
