Haiti Marks Labor and Agriculture Day Amid Security and Economic Challenges

Haiti commemorated National Labor and Agriculture Day on May 1 under the theme “Pwodiksyon nasyonal se potomitan batay pou sekirite” (National production is the backbone of the fight for security). The official ceremony brought together government officials, members of the judiciary, diplomats, international partners, and representatives from labor unions and farmers’ organizations.

Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé used the occasion to reaffirm the government’s commitment to economic inclusion and social justice. He emphasized that restoring security and organizing elections remain top priorities, describing them as essential steps toward ensuring peace and dignity for the Haitian people.

Authorities also highlighted support programs led by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor (MAST) and the Ministry of Agriculture (MARNDR), targeting vulnerable populations, farmers, and small businesses.

The event, held at the National Palace gardens, was presented as a symbolic sign of gradual territorial control, as the government aims to create conditions for future inclusive and democratic elections.
