SNGRS Director Daril Balthazar Takes Hands-On Approach to Tackling Haiti’s Waste Management Challenges

PORT-AU-PRINCE, November 3, 2026 – Haiti’s National Solid Waste Management Service (SNGRS) is stepping up its sanitation efforts under the leadership of Director General Daril Balthazar, who has demonstrated a hands-on commitment to improving cleanliness across the metropolitan area.

Following the launch of a cleanup operation in Nazon on Monday, November 2, Balthazar returned to the streets on Tuesday, maintaining his direct involvement in the ongoing sanitation activities. His presence reflects an approach focused on field operations, team mobilization and tangible results.

A key component of this initiative is the establishment of a task force bringing together the SNGRS, the municipal administrations of Port-au-Prince, Delmas and Pétion-Ville, as well as the Haitian National Police. The joint structure is expected to coordinate cleanup operations across several metropolitan neighborhoods, with Solino among the targeted areas.

Balthazar also expressed appreciation to Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé for entrusting him with the responsibility. He further emphasized the economic potential of waste recycling, arguing that solid waste can become a source of revenue for the public treasury.

Addressing critics who have questioned his social background, the SNGRS chief stressed his connection to ordinary Haitians, recalling that he was born on Fifth Avenue Bolosse, in the heart of Port-au-Prince.
