Elections: Budget Revised to $190 Million Despite Executive-Imposed Cap
The budget for Haiti’s upcoming elections has undergone a notable revision. Initially set at $250 million, it has been reduced to $190 million, according to a source close to the matter.
The Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) officially submitted the revised document to the executive branch on Tuesday, April 28, for the necessary administrative and financial follow-up.This adjustment follows prior discussions between both parties.
During an earlier meeting, the executive had imposed a strict budget ceiling of $150 million for organizing nationwide elections. The new figure reflects a compromise, although a gap remains between the CEP’s technical projections and the government’s financial constraints.
The development underscores ongoing tensions surrounding the funding and feasibility of the electoral process.
