Haiti – Insecurity : 458 dead since the beginning of the year


In Haiti, more than 450 violent deaths were recorded since the beginning of the year until May 20, as a result of clashes between armed gangs, the Episcopal Commission for Justice and Peace of the Catholic Church in Haiti (CE-JILAP) revealed on Tuesday.

The largest number of victims occurred in the fight for territory between the rival gangs 400 Mawozo and Chen Mechan during last April in the region known as Plaine du Cul de Sac, at the northern entrance of Port-au-Prince.

In a report prepared by the organization, which will be published in the coming days, the number of victims of the latest events that have occurred in the area and that continue to aggravate the security situation in the country is detailed, advanced Jocelyne Colas, the head of CE- JILAP.
