Former US Ambassador to Haiti Advocates for Limited Military Deployment

In an exclusive interview with the Miami Herald, former US Ambassador to Haiti, James Foley, voiced his concern regarding the current situation in the country and called for a limited military deployment to prevent a complete collapse of the Haitian state.

Foley, who served as ambassador to Haiti during a crucial period of political transition, emphasized the need for swift intervention to prevent the situation from further deteriorating. “We are on the brink,” Foley warned, highlighting the devastating consequences of a potential total failure of the Haitian state.

According to Foley, a restricted military deployment in Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, could provide a temporary lifeline to stabilize the situation. “This could involve a rapid short-term deployment with subsequent transfer to an international force,” he explained.
