Haiti – Bad weather: 15 deaths and 8 people missing

In a provisional assessment presented this Sunday, the General Directorate of Civil Protection reports 15 deaths, 8 missing, 7,475 families affected, 1,219 houses flooded and approximately 13,390 displaced persons.

The West, Nippes, South-East, North-West and Center departments are the most affected. 5,510 households are affected in the west and more than 2,539 are displaced.

The agricultural sector is very affected by the latest bad weather in Haiti. In the Center, Grande-Anse, North-West, West, several plantations were devastated. At a time when food insecurity is at a critical stage in the country, these losses risk fatally affecting an already battered economy.

The latest rains in Haiti have caused an increase in cholera cases, particularly in the Southeast and Grande-Anse. Several cases have been reported including 4 deaths in these 2 departments, according to health authorities.
