A Haitian killed by Dominican soldiers

A group of seven people, including three military brothers, allegedly killed a Haitian man and set him on fire inside one of the eight houses they set fire to in La Rosa, in the Majagual section, in the mountainous part of this municipality.

The victim, aged at least 40, was identified only as Armando, who died from gunshot wounds and machetes.

The man worked with the president of the Association of Farmers of this community, Tirzo Rodríguez, who gave details of the event. Rodríguez identified the soldiers as Papiltín, Roberto and Valentín Montero, who allegedly traveled from the municipality of Vallejuelo, in the province of San Juan, to carry out the acts.

He said the group retaliated because Dominican Valerio Montero, a military father, was stoned in the arm as he intervened in a fight between two young Haitians. “There were no problems getting there,” Rodríguez said.

“They wanted to do this; They burned about eight houses, they killed the Haitian, one of my workers; after killing him, they gave him a fire and they rose up with all the Haitians, and there was no one here anymore,” Rodríguez said.
