$250 Million Election Budget Sparks Government Pushback

During an official visit to the United States, Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé publicly challenged the $250 million budget proposed by the Provisional Electoral Council for upcoming elections.

Speaking to Magik9 on April 22, 2026, he described the figure as “unthinkable,” arguing it is out of step with the country’s severe socioeconomic constraints.Dismissing allegations of political stalling, the prime minister reaffirmed that organizing credible nationwide elections remains a top government priority.

His stance aligns with several political groups that have also criticized the proposed budget as excessive and disconnected from Haiti’s economic reality.
