Artibonite: More Than Eight Killed in Robert as Gangs Tighten Grip on Lower Artibonite

Armed violence continues to devastate Haiti’s Artibonite department. In Robert, the 4th communal section of Saint-Marc, more than eight people were killed over the weekend during a new attack reportedly carried out by the Savien gang.

Residents denounce the complete absence of state intervention as armed groups continue expanding their control across Lower Artibonite.

While massacres intensify, de facto Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé is being criticized for prioritizing political appointments instead of security operations. In Marchand-Dessalines, a town still surrounded by gangs, the mayor eventually resigned amid the worsening crisis.

In response, the government merely appointed a new municipal commission without retaking control of the commune, which remains under the domination of heavily armed criminals.
